Hagia Sophia: Built by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian in the 6th century, this Basilica is famous for its architectural practices far beyond its time and the splendor of its dome (we visit the Chora Museum instead, since the Hagia Sophia Museum is closed on Mondays).
Blue Mosque: This
Selatin mosque, built in the name of Sultan Ahmet in the 17th century, is
famous for its 6 minarets, the only example in the world, and the valuable
Iznik tiles used in its interior decoration.
Horse Square
(Hippodrome): The ancient horse square in Sultanahmet Square, which was the
scene of chariot races during the Eastern Roman Period, is the most important
square of Byzantium. The square is decorated with Egyptian and Byzantine
Obelisks erected during the Theodosius Period, the Serpentine Column and the
German Fountain made during the Ottoman Period.
Süleymaniye Mosque:
The mosque, which was commissioned by Mimar Sinan, the master of Turkish
architecture, by the most powerful sultan of the Ottoman Empire, Suleiman the
Magnificent, is one of the most defining symbols of the Istanbul silhouette.
Topkapı Palace:
Ottoman sultans ruled the empire from this palace from the end of the 15th
century to the 19th century. In the palace, which is now a museum, there are
exhibits such as Ottoman treasury, Chinese porcelain, weapons, clothes and
clocks, as well as the Sacred Relics department.
Grand Bazaar: We
wander through the labyrinth-like streets of one of the few covered bazaars in
the world, among thousands of small shops, in a riot of colors (closed on
Sundays).
